How much will it cost to register in Sledge Hockey?
- Basic Sledge Hockey Alberta fee is $36.00 per participant, which includes insurance and registration fees. All other costs are determined locally.
What is the registration process?
- Players register as individuals on their team/program in the Sledge Hockey program. A SLEDGE HOCKEY Registration form is available to list the local players on.
- Or teams can register through their minor hockey association
Are you allowing "drop in" players?
- Yes, if the "drop in" player is registered in the SLEDGE HOCKEY program in another community (the player needs to be registered with Sledge Hockey Alberta somewhere before playing).
What would be the playing rules (if any) for this program?
- Determined by the local SLEDGE HOCKEY organizers, based on Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, and Paralympic playing rules.
Are there age categories?
- All age divisions, categories may be determined by the local sledge hockey organization based on numbers.
Will my child need full hockey equipment?
- Yes, attired in full equipment according to Hockey Canada playing rules is required to participate.
Is my child insured for a severe injury?
What time commitment are you looking for from me as a parent, both at the arena (practices and games), as well as concession time, bingos and other fund raising activities?
- Determined by local needs.
Will my child be supervised while on the ice and by who?
- Adequate adult supervision by someone registered with the Hockey Alberta Sledge Hockey program is required.
How would the liability issue for on ice supervisors/coaches be addressed?
- On ice supervisors/coaches should be registered as a SLEDGE HOCKEY supervisor/coach
What type of qualifications/courses would the supervisors require?
- Determined by the local SLEDGE HOCKEY organization, but Hockey Alberta strongly recommends there be at least one person on each team with a Hockey Canada Safety Program certificate and a Speakout certificate.
How are discipline issues handled?
- Since adequate adult supervision is required, discipline will be handled by the local SLEDGE HOCKEY organization.
Would you need registered referees for any game?
- It is a good idea, but at this time only adequate adult supervision is required.
Are Sledge Hockey Alberta Games a sanctioned event?
- Yes, if all players are registered with Hockey Alberta (through the Sledge Hockey program or their Minor Hockey Association)
Can we travel out of province to attend tournaments or play exhibition games?
- Yes, but if the tournament is not a Hockey Canada sanctioned event, your Hockey Alberta Insurance will not go with you.
- For exhibition games, all players must be registered through their branch or Sledge Hockey Program and be enrolled in the Hockey Canada Insurance program.
What if an out of province team wants to come play us?
- Same as exhibition games, all players must be registered through their branch or Sledge Hockey Program and be enrolled in the Hockey Canada Insurance program.
Would there be any cross over between the Sledge and Stand-up programs?
- Yes, a player may play in the current stream and still participate in a SLEDGE HOCKEY program and vice versa.
If registered in SLEDGE HOCKEY and mainstream hockey, do I have to pay the insurance twice?
- No, insurance only needs to be paid once. If the premium is paid twice, a refund is available.
Would there be a form of league structure or would it be on an exhibition format?
- Determined by the local SLEDGE HOCKEY organizations
Would sledge hockey registration numbers affect provincial numbers?
Are there any structure models in place for a how a LMHA should run this program?
- We suggest a dedicated SLEDGE HOCKEY person be recruited to liaise with the LMHA Board to administer the program
