The 5th Annual Western Canada Sledge Hockey Tournament took place at the South Fish Creek Recreation Centre in Calgary, AB for the second year in a row. The tournament saw more than 100 athletes compete in 3 divisions. Teams came from across Alberta, and as far away as BC, Kindersley SK, and Winnipeg, MB to compete in the 3 day event. While not all teams could take the title, all enjoyed the atmosphere, competition, and the opportunity to take in the City of Calgary.

Each gold medal game was particularly exciting. In the Junior Division the Kindersley Klippers were able to jump out to a 3-0 with some outstanding offensive play. Calgary managed to come back with 1 goal late in the third, but Kindersley hung on for the exciting win.

In the Senior B division, newcomers to the event Manitoba Moose showed everyone their skill going undefeated in the round robin. The gold medal game was an exciting one and pitted the Moose against 2007 Champions, the Red Deer Rage. With the game knotted at one, The Rage managed to put home a wrist shot from the high slot to take the lead with only 90 seconds left to play, and hold on for the win.

The Senior A final was a back an forth affair with never more that a goal separating the 2008 silver medalist Edmonton Impact and 2008 Bronze medalist BC Eagles. The hard fought battle remain deadlocked through the third period and overtime, needing 6 rounds of shootout to before the Impact put the game away to take the title, leaving each team with an upgrade on their 2008 finishes.
