News Release - Bill Hay to Speak at Centennial Gala
EDMONTON, AB – Hockey Alberta is pleased to announce Bill Hay as the speaker for the Centennial Gala on November 29 in Edmonton at Rexall Place. Bill Hay is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ont..
"We are very excited to have such an icon speaking at our event. Bill is a very respected individual in the hockey world and we believe that he will help create the excitement of celebrating 100 great years of Hockey Alberta," said Executive Director Scott Robinson, Hockey Alberta Foundation.
Hay started his hockey career back in 1958 where he played for the Chicago Blackhawks until 1967. In 1980, Hay became a member of the selection committee for the Hockey Hall of Fame until 1993. Then in 1990 – 1991, he became the President and Chief Operation Officer of Hockey Canada before accepting the position of president and CEO of the Calgary Flames Hockey Club in 1991 - 1995. From 1993 – 1998, Hay was the chairman of the selection committee for the Hockey Hall of Fame. After the Flames, Hay moved to the Canadian Hockey Association from 1995-1998. Today, Hay has been the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Hockey Hall of Fame since 1998.
"With his passion for the game and link to its important history we know he will do an exceptional job at the Gala. Many people look up to him and now people will have a chance to meet him," said Robinson.
The Gala marks the 100th anniversary of Hockey Alberta and will be recognizing those who received a Hockey Alberta centennial award. Tickets are on sale now to the public for $150 per seat. Please check out the Hockey Alberta web site for more information.
