Alberta North vs. NWT (4-3 ot NWT): To say this one was a shocker would be an understatement as less than 24hrs earlier Team Alberta North had defeated NWT by a score of 5-2. They opened up a 6-0 lead after one, including 2 short handed goals. Team Alberta North would add 3 more in the second and 1 in the third for the 10-0 win. The game was tied 1-1 after two but Team Alberta North’s Power Play would come up huge by sniping 2 in the final five minutes to secure the win. They were led by Jace Zahara (Rycroft) who notched 2 goals while Steven Kover (Notikewin) added 2 assists. Once again Terrence Wold (Grande Prairie) played a strong game in net making 17 saves while Team Alberta North fired 33 on the opposition.
TUESDAY, MARCH 9 UPDATE
Junior Female (2-0-0)
Alberta North vs. Nunavut (9-0 Alberta North): Team Alberta North started off a little slow in the morning game as they only led by 1 after the first period. However, the flood gates opened in the second, the team scored 8 unanswered goals led by Shelby Robinson (Beaverlodge) who notched 3 goals and 2 assists. At that point the shots were 35-0 and Team Nunavut decided that they had enough and packed it in after the second frame.
Alberta North vs. NWT (4-0 Alberta North): This game was much more competitive than the opener even though Team Alberta North led wire to wire. We scored 2 goals in each of the first two periods and played to a scoreless third. Charity Price (Widewater) was the offensive catalyst with 2 goals while Paige Flohr (Grande Prairie) earned the goose egg.
Bantam Male (1-1-1)
Alberta North vs. Nunavut (12-0 Alberta North): This one wasn’t even close; the bantam males were absolutely dominant in every aspect of the game. The game did quite get dirty towards the end but our boys kept their cool and represented Alberta with class. Team Alberta North was led by Justin Loroff (Slave Lake) who notched the hat trick; Cole Wiebe (Fairview) had 5 helpers while Taylor Andres (Slave Lake) recorded the shut out.
Alberta North vs. Alaska (3-0 Alaska): After a dominant performance earlier in the day, the Bantam team looked like they had nothing left in the tank. It was scoreless after one; we then gave up 2 in the second and 1 in the final frame. Although we out shot Alaska by a 30-21 margin, they definitely held the edge in terms of scoring chances. Matt Fyfe (Peace River) played well in net and did everything to give us a chance to win.
Midget Male (0-1-1)
Alberta North vs. Nunavut (3-3): This one was quite the shocker as Team Alberta North had dominated Nunavut’s other two contingents earlier in the day. Although it wasn’t the expected outcome, our boys battled back on three different occasions tying it up midway through the third on a two man advantage. The shots ended up 48-11 in our favor but when you run into a hot goalie, what can you do? Brandon Bogdanek (Eaglesham) and Colton Deley (Rycroft) each had a goal and an assist while Terrence Wold (Grande Prairie) played in goal for Team Alberta North in the opener.
Alberta North vs. Alaska (5-0 Alaska): Team Alberta North was down 1-0 after the second but gave up 4 goals in the first four minutes to put the game out of reach. We out shot Alaska 29-25 but much like the earlier game, the Midget's were snake bitten. Both Ryan Wilson (Grande Prairie) and Terrence Wold (Grande Prairie) made appearances between the pipes.
