CAMROSE TO HOST 2011 RBC CUP
Mon, Oct 19 2009

Hockey Canada announced on Monday that Camrose, Alta., will host the 2011 RBC Cup, Canada's National Junior A Championship. The Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League will serve as the tournament’s host team.

The 2011 RBC Cup will be held in May 2011 with the Kodiaks and four regional champions facing off for the 41st national championship.

The Kodiaks have been one of Canadian Junior A hockey’s most successful teams over the past decade, appearing in five national championships (2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008). The team won the 2001 championship in Flin Flon, Man., and made championship game appearances in 2003, 2005 and 2008.

“We are extremely excited and honoured to have the privilege of hosting the 2011 RBC Cup,” says Barry Fossen, president of the Camrose Kodiaks. “This is a time for celebration for the community of Camrose, our volunteers, sponsors, billets, fans, and organization. We will make this the best ever RBC Cup in history, there is no doubt in my mind! On behalf of the Camrose Sport Development Society I would like to thank Hockey Canada for giving us this opportunity to showcase Junior A hockey.”

The 2011 RBC Cup will mark the fourth time the tournament is held in Alberta since it went to its current five-team format in 1990, and the first since Grande Prairie played host in 2004. Fort McMurray (2000) and Olds (1994) have also hosted the National Junior A Championship.

2011 RBC Cup ticket packages for Camrose Kodiaks season ticket holders will go on sale Oct. 25 for only $150. Packages can be purchased at any Kodiaks home game, or by calling the ticket office at 780-679-2603. Office hours are noon-4 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Beginning Nov. 1, Kodiaks season ticket holders can also visit www.camrosekodiaks.com and download a ticket order form, which can be faxed or emailed to the Kodiaks office.

Ticket package sales for non-season ticket holders will begin on Dec. 27.

The 2010 RBC Cup will be held in Dauphin, Man., from May 1-9. For more information, visit www.hockeycanada.ca/rbccup.

Canada’s top Junior A players will gather in Summerside, P.E.I. beginning November 1 for the 2009 World Junior A Challenge, which features a pair of Canadian entries as well as teams from Belarus, Russia, Sweden and the United States. For more information, visit www.hockeycanada.ca/wjac
