About Us

To become the most progressive and innovative sport organization in Canada.

To foster hockey and contribute to community building by providing leadership and creating opportunities for valuable life experiences. We serve those who serve the athletes.

Hockey Alberta was founded in 1907 and has acted as the governing body of the sport of hockey in this province from day one. Since then, Hockey Alberta has been designing and implementing new ways to organize and develop players throughout the province to create a positive and effective experience for everyone.

Hockey Alberta is the third largest provincial branch of Hockey Canada, which is the national governing body for amateur hockey in Canada. Due to this relationship, Hockey Alberta is the acting governing body for amateur hockey in the province of Alberta ranging from the levels of minor hockey to senior hockey including the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Hockey Alberta has approximately 450 member organizations (all registering their participants online) representing over 80,000 participants in our province. All players are coached, officiated and developed through the teachings and education that Hockey Alberta provides at all levels of the game and at all ages of the game to coaches, trainers, officials and administrators.

Hockey Alberta is a volunteer driven organization with over 500 volunteers involved in different roles throughout our committees and programs. The direction of Hockey Alberta is guided through a Board of Directors, councils, many committees and implemented through 9 zone teams, all completely made up of volunteer positions. Without the devotion of these people, Hockey Alberta would not be one of the leaders in the development of players throughout Canada.

Hockey Alberta consists of 22 staff that facilitate the operations, development and foundation departments of the organization located in Red Deer. Hockey Alberta has two staff members who work at Hockey Alberta Regional Centres, one in Grande Prairie and one in Lethbridge. The staff oversees all of the programs and services that Hockey Alberta provides its members through implementation, discussion and development on a day-to-day basis.
